Global settings holds the rules that apply to every editing tool at once, rather than to one tool. If a setting would affect how all your tools behave, it lives here, so it can never look like a per-tool option while secretly applying everywhere.
How to get there
Open Editing Tools in the Tacey menu, then choose the Global settings tab at the top, next to Tools. Tool settings pages also link here with Go to Global Settings → wherever a global rule is in charge.
Everything on the page is saved together. Change what you need, then click Save in the bar at the top of the screen, or Discard to put everything back.
Every section, at a glance
Section | Setting | Default | What it controls |
Edit window | Let customers edit their own order | Off | The master switch. While it is off, customers cannot change any order themselves. |
How long the window stays open | 24 hours | From 15 minutes to 7 days, counted from when the order was placed. | |
Order holds | Hold fulfillment while the edit window is open | Off | Keeps an order whose address the customer changed from shipping until the window closes. |
Refunds | Refund customers automatically | Off | Whether refunds from a discount or a cheaper swap wait for your approval or go out on their own. |
Maximum edits per order | How many changes are allowed | 3 | One total per order, shared by every tool. From 1 to 20. |
Blocked order tags | Tags to block | None | Orders carrying any of these tags cannot be changed by the customer. |
Tag edited orders | Add a tag when a customer edits their order | Off | Adds your chosen tag to every order a customer changes. |
Which countries to check | Check every country, Only check these countries or Check everywhere except these countries | Check every country | Which countries' addresses the address check runs on. |
Sender identity (email) | Sender name, customer support email, store notification email | Your store's details | Where Tacey's emails come from and where replies go. |
Settings that warn you when they cannot work
Some combinations do nothing, and the page says so next to the control rather than letting you find out from a confused order later:
Turning on Hold fulfillment while the edit window is open while Let customers edit their own order is off shows: "This has no effect while "Let customers edit their own order" above is off, since there is no edit window to hold fulfillment for."
Setting Maximum edits per order to 1 shows a warning that a customer can make exactly one change of any kind, then every tool refuses.
Leaving Refund customers automatically off shows a reminder that refunds wait for you to click Approve refund on the order.
Turning on Tag edited orders without choosing a tag will not save.
What is NOT on this page
Each tool's own options, such as where a cancellation refund goes or which discounts a customer can claim. Those are on the tool's own page under the Tools tab.
Your plan and order allowance. Those are on Billing.
Placing Tacey on your order pages. Turning tools on here does not add them to your store. You also add the Tacey block in Shopify's checkout and customer accounts editor.
Frequently asked
I changed a setting and nothing seems different.
Check that you clicked Save. The save bar stays visible until you do. Then check Let customers edit their own order is on: most settings on this page only matter while customers can edit.
Do these settings apply to orders placed before I changed them?
Yes. Tacey reads your current settings each time a customer opens their order page or saves a change.
