How do I stop customers from editing certain Shopify orders with Tacey?

Use Blocked order tags to keep flagged orders, such as ones under fraud review, out of reach of every customer tool.

Written by Joseph Odera

Add a tag to the order in Shopify, and list that tag in Tacey's Blocked order tags. Tacey then stops offering changes on any order carrying it. It is the simplest way to lock an order you are reviewing, without switching Tacey off for everyone.

As the setting describes it: "Orders carrying any of these tags are never offered to the customer, for any tool. Use this as your fraud or manual-review escape hatch."

How to set it up

  1. In Tacey, open Editing Tools.

  2. Click the Global settings tab.

  3. Find Blocked order tags.

  4. In Tags to block, type the tags you want to block, separated by commas, for example `fraud:high, manual-review`.

  5. Click Save in the save bar at the top of the page.

Nothing is blocked until you add at least one tag.

How to block a single order

  1. In your Shopify admin, open the order.

  2. Add one of your blocked tags to it, for example `manual-review`.

  3. Save the order.

From then on, the customer cannot change that order with Tacey. Remove the tag to allow changes again, as long as the order is still inside your edit window.

How tags are matched

  • Whole tags only. Blocking `review` blocks orders tagged `review`, not orders tagged `manual-review`.

  • Capital letters do not matter. `Manual-Review` and `manual-review` are treated as the same tag.

  • Any one tag is enough. If an order carries any tag on your list, it is blocked.

What your customer sees

Instead of tools that fail when they try them, the customer sees:

> This order is held for review, so it cannot be changed here. Reply to your order confirmation email if you need help.

Tacey shows this reason ahead of any other, because it is the most useful thing for the customer to know: a person needs to look at their order.

Good uses

  • Orders your fraud app has tagged as high risk.

  • Orders your team is reviewing by hand.

  • Wholesale or special orders you always handle yourself.

  • Orders where you have already agreed a change with the customer and do not want further edits.

What this does NOT do

  • It does not block the Contact support tool. Asking you for help is not an edit, so a customer with a blocked order can still reach you if you have that tool on.

  • It does not tag orders for you. You, your team or another app add the tag in Shopify.

  • It does not stop address checks. A blocked order's address is still checked.

  • It does not stop you editing the order in Shopify.

Frequently asked

Can I block every order from a certain customer?

Not directly. Tacey looks at the order's own tags. If a tool or Shopify Flow adds your blocked tag to that customer's orders, those orders are blocked.

Does blocking an order affect my plan's order count?

No. The order was counted once when it was placed, whether or not it can be edited.
