Why are no recommended products showing on my Shopify Thank you page?

A checklist for when Recommended for you shows nothing, shows fewer products than expected, or a customer cannot add an item.

Written by Joseph Odera

Recommended for you only shows products a customer can actually buy, on orders Tacey is allowed to change. When the row is missing or thin, one of the checks below is almost always the reason. Work through them in order.

1. Is the Tacey block on the page?

Turning the tool on in Tacey does not place anything on your customers' pages. Open Shopify's checkout editor and add the Tacey block to the Thank you page, then open the customer accounts editor and add it to the Order status page. The Editing Tools page cannot detect this for you, so check both editors.

2. Is the tool on and fully set up?

  1. In Tacey, open Editing Tools and click Set up tools on the Thank you page card.

  2. Look at Recommended for you. If it says Off, open it and click Turn on. If it says Needs setup, the default recommendation is missing.

  3. Open it and check If no rule matches, show this has a product or collection. Without one the row never appears.

3. Is it set to show on this page?

Check Show on. If it is set to Thank you page only, customers see nothing on the Order status page, and the reverse.

4. Is the order one Tacey can change?

The row never appears on orders Shopify will not let an app edit, or that Tacey refuses:

  • orders paid with Shop Pay Installments

  • orders created by another app

  • orders whose payment has not completed yet (cash on delivery, bank transfer, manual payment)

  • orders placed before 2019

  • local delivery orders

  • orders placed through a business (B2B) account

  • cancelled orders, and orders merged into another order

  • orders carrying one of your Blocked order tags

  • orders whose edit window has closed

Orders paid in another currency can show recommendations.

5. Are your products offerable to this customer?

Each product must be active, published to the customer's market, available for sale, and priced for that market. Check in Shopify:

  • the product status is Active, not Draft or Archived

  • the product is published to the market that covers the customer's shipping country (or billing country, if the order has no shipping address)

  • at least one option is in stock, or Hide out-of-stock items is off

If the customer already has the product on the order and Hide items already in this order is on, it is left out.

6. Is a rule matching but finding nothing?

If a rule matches the order, Tacey uses that rule's products and does not fall back to your default. When all of that rule's products are filtered out, the row shows nothing. Look for warnings on the settings page, such as "Order-total rule 2 will never apply" or "Items priced at 10.00 or less are not recommended, because this discount would make them free or less."

7. Using Shopify recommends?

Shopify needs sales history for Related products, and pairings in its Search & Discovery app for Complementary products. When it has nothing, your default is shown, so a missing row here usually points back to step 2 or step 5.

Fewer products than you expected

Maximum products shown caps the row (3 by default, up to 12). A single default product always shows as one card. Order-total rules only draw from your 50 most recently updated active products.

A customer says they could not add an item

  • "This item can no longer be added to your order. Please choose another." The item sold out, left the market, or stopped being offered on that order between showing and confirming.

  • If the customer reached Pay now but did not pay, the item is removed when the payment wait runs out (24 hours by default).
