How do I stop customers editing orders I've flagged for fraud review?

Use blocked order tags to switch off customer address and contact changes on any order you tag, and what the customer is told.

Add a tag to the order. Tacey's Blocked order tags setting lets you name one or more order tags, such as `fraud:high` or `manual-review`. Any order carrying one of those tags cannot have its address or contact details changed by the customer, no matter how long is left on the edit window.

This is your escape hatch for orders you want to look at before anything changes, especially the classic pattern of a suspicious order followed by a request to send it somewhere else.

How to set it up

  1. In Tacey, open Editing Tools.

  2. Open the Global settings tab.

  3. Find Blocked order tags.

  4. In Tags to block, type the tags you want, separated by commas. For example: `fraud:high, manual-review`

  5. Click Save.

Then tag orders as you normally would, by hand in Shopify admin, or automatically with Shopify Flow or a fraud app that adds tags.

What the customer sees

The tools are still listed on the Thank you and Order status pages, but refused, with:

> This order is held for review, so it cannot be changed here. Reply to your order confirmation email if you need help.

The message tells the customer the order is under review, not that the edit window closed, so they contact you rather than trying again.

Which tools a blocked tag stops

A blocked tag stops the tools that change the order itself, including Edit delivery address and Update contact details, as well as the tools that change items, discounts or cancel the order.

Two tools deliberately stay available:

  • Ask for help. A customer whose order is under review is exactly the customer most likely to need to reach you.

  • Order notes & gift messages. Leaving a note does not change where the order goes or what is in it.

Tips

  • Use a tag your fraud tool already applies. Many fraud and risk apps tag orders automatically. Put that tag in the list and Tacey follows it with no extra work.

  • Removing the tag lifts the block. If you clear the order, remove the tag in Shopify admin and the customer can edit again, as long as their edit window is still open.

  • Keep tags specific. A tag you use for something unrelated, such as `vip`, would block editing on every order carrying it.

What this does NOT do

  • It does not cancel, hold or refund the order. It only switches off customer changes through Tacey.

  • It does not tag orders for you. You, Shopify Flow or another app apply the tag; Tacey only reads it.

  • It does not stop your own edits in Shopify admin.

Frequently asked

Does the tag need to match exactly?

The whole tag must match, but capital letters and extra spaces are ignored. `Fraud:High` in your list blocks an order tagged `fraud:high`. A partial match does not count: `fraud` in your list does not block an order tagged `fraud:high`.

I added a tag after the customer opened their order page. Is the block immediate?

Tacey reads the order fresh when the customer tries to save, so a tag you add before they save is honoured.
