You decide. Tacey's edit window is the time after an order is placed during which your customers can still change it themselves, from 15 minutes up to 7 days. Once it closes, customers can no longer make changes on their own.
Where to set it
In Tacey, open Editing Tools.
Click the Global settings tab.
Find the Edit window section.
The two settings
Let customers edit their own order
"Turns on the fix-it link a customer gets by email and sees on their own order status page." This is the main switch for every customer tool. It is off until you turn it on, either here or with Turn on and continue on your dashboard's setup checklist. While it is off, Tacey's block does not appear to customers at all.
How long the window stays open
"Counted from the moment the order is placed. Once it closes, the customer can no longer make changes themselves." Choose from:
15 minutes
30 minutes
1 hour
6 hours
12 hours
24 hours (the default)
48 hours (2 days)
72 hours (3 days)
168 hours (7 days)
Click Save in the save bar at the top of the page.
What your customer sees
While the window is open, Tacey's block shows a countdown, for example "5h 12m left to edit."
After it closes, the customer sees: "The time to make changes to this order has passed. Reply to your order confirmation email if you still need a change."
Choosing the right length
Shorter windows (15 minutes to a few hours) suit stores that fulfil very quickly. Customers fix typos right after checkout, and your team is never waiting.
Longer windows (1 to 7 days) suit stores that ship on a schedule, pre-orders, or made-to-order products.
A good rule: set the window to end before your team or warehouse usually picks the order.
Holding orders during the window
In the Order holds section of the same page, Hold fulfillment while the edit window is open keeps an order from shipping until its window closes. It is off by default. As Tacey explains: "Most merchants leave this off, since Tacey already holds fulfillment automatically whenever a customer owes an unpaid balance."
It has no effect while Let customers edit their own order is off.
What this does NOT do
It does not let customers change orders that are already fulfilled. Only items that have not shipped can be changed.
It does not affect you. You can still change any order yourself in Shopify at any time.
It does not restart when a customer makes a change. The window always runs from when the order was placed.
Turning it off does not stop address checks. Every new order's address is still checked.
Frequently asked
Can I set a custom length, like 4 hours?
No. Choose the nearest option from the list.
If I change the window, does it affect existing orders?
Yes. Tacey works out each order's window from when it was placed and your current setting. So after you change it, any order placed within the new length can be changed, and any order older than the new length cannot.
Does the window limit how many changes a customer can make?
No. That is a separate setting, Maximum edits per order, on the same page. See How do I limit how many changes a customer can make to one order?.
