Pick the order tags you use for orders that need a person to look at them, such as a fraud review tag or a wholesale tag, and add them to Blocked order tags. Any order carrying one of those tags is kept away from the editing tools, so a customer cannot change it while you are reviewing it.
Where to find it
Editing Tools → Global settings → Blocked order tags.
How to block a tag
Open Editing Tools and choose the Global settings tab.
In Blocked order tags, click Add a tag to block.
Search your order tags and choose one. The list shows the tags already on your Shopify orders, most used first.
Add as many as you need.
Click Save.
To unblock a tag, remove it from the list and save.
If you have a lot of tags, the list shows your most used ones and says "Type a tag to use one that is not listed." In that case you can type the tag's name exactly.
Why it is a picker and not a text box
A typed list lets a typo through. If you meant to block `fraud-review` and typed `fraud-reveiw`, nothing would ever be blocked and nothing would tell you. Picking from your real order tags means the tag you block is one your orders actually carry.
Matching ignores capital letters and extra spaces, so blocking `Fraud:High` also blocks an order tagged `fraud:high`.
What the customer sees
On an order carrying a blocked tag, the editing tools are refused with:
"This order is held for review, so it cannot be changed here. Reply to your order confirmation email if you need help."
The message does not mention the tag, so a customer never learns how you flag orders.
Which tools it blocks
Every tool that changes what the customer bought, where it goes or what they paid: Edit delivery address, Update contact details, Change product options, Replace product, Add a product to your order, Cancel order, Apply a discount, Free gift, Recommended for you and Upgrade shipping method.
These three stay available on a blocked order, because they do not change the order's contents:
Order notes & gift messages
Download invoice
Ask for help
That means a customer on a flagged order can still send you a message about it.
Good uses
A fraud or risk tag added by you, a Shopify Flow or a fraud app.
A tag for wholesale, pre-order or custom-made orders that must not change once placed.
A tag you add by hand when a customer has already asked you directly for a change, so they do not make a second one themselves.
What this does NOT do
It does not add tags for you. It only reacts to tags already on the order.
It does not affect orders you edit yourself in Shopify.
It does not hold the order from shipping. Blocking editing and holding fulfillment are separate.
It does not undo a change already made. If the tag is added after the customer edited, their earlier change stays. Further changes are refused from that moment.
Frequently asked
Does the tag need to be on the order when it is placed?
No. Tacey reads the order's tags each time the customer opens their order page or tries to save a change. Add the tag at any time and the next attempt is refused.
Can I block by other things, like order value or country?
Not from this setting. Blocked order tags only look at tags. You can use a Shopify Flow to add a tag based on other conditions, then block that tag here.
