Should Tacey correct a customer's address automatically or ask them first?

How When to suggest a correction, Apply confident corrections automatically and Ask the customer to confirm work together, and which combination suits your store.

Written by Joseph Odera

When a customer edits their delivery address, Tacey checks it and can suggest a better version. Three settings decide how pushy that is: how often a suggestion is shown, whether a very safe correction is filled in for them, and whether they confirm before anything saves. The defaults lean toward asking, because the customer knows their own address.

The three settings

Find them in Editing Tools, then Edit delivery address, then Configure.

Apply confident corrections automatically

Off

When our check is highly confident about a correction, apply it without asking the customer.

Ask the customer to confirm

On

Show the corrected address and make the customer confirm before we save it.

When to suggest a correction

  • Only when something looks wrong (default): Tacey stays quiet unless the check flags the address. Second-guessing a correct address costs you completions.

  • Every time: the customer always sees our version beside theirs, even when their own address is fine.

  • Never: Tacey still checks the address, but never shows the customer a suggestion.

When a suggestion is shown, the customer sees two cards, Current and Suggested, and picks Use suggested address or Keep my address.

Apply confident corrections automatically

This is deliberately narrow. Even when it is on, Tacey only fills in a correction when all of these are true:

  • The check found the exact building.

  • The only differences are the postal code, state or province, or country code. A correction to the street or the city never qualifies, and if the correction includes one, nothing is filled in at all.

  • Nothing about the address is unconfirmed, no apartment number looks missing, and it is not a PO box.

Even then, it is a pre-fill, not a silent save. The customer sees: "We corrected your postal code, state or country to match your address. Tap 'Keep my address' if you'd rather not." They still save it themselves, and can undo it.

It is off by default because it changes where a parcel goes with nobody confirming the new value first.

Ask the customer to confirm

With this on, before anything saves the customer sees Check before we save, "We'll update your delivery address to:" followed by the exact address, with Confirm and save and Go back. It catches the customer who typed quickly and did not notice a mistake of their own.

Turning it off saves the address as soon as the customer presses save. That is faster but gives them no last look.

What this does NOT do

  • None of these block a save. They decide what the customer is shown. To refuse an address the check cannot confirm, use Block addresses we can't confirm.

  • A check that cannot run never blocks the customer. If the address service is unavailable, the address saves as entered.

  • They do not change checkout. They only apply when a customer edits the address after ordering.
