Tacey checks the shipping address on every new order, automatically, after the order is placed. You do not need to switch it on or press anything. It catches typos, wrong postal codes and addresses a carrier cannot deliver to, before the parcel ships.
When the check runs
The check runs right after checkout, as soon as Shopify tells Tacey a new order exists. It does not run inside checkout, so it can never slow down or block a customer while they are paying.
Tacey says it the same way during setup: "Nothing touches your checkout. Everything happens after the order is placed."
What happens to each order
A customer places an order with a shipping address.
Tacey sends the address to an address-checking service suited to that country.
Tacey records the answer and gives the order a result, such as Verified, Needs attention or Undeliverable.
The result appears on your Orders page in the Address check column, usually within moments.
Tacey also tags the order in Shopify: `tacey-validated` when it is confident about the address, or `tacey-check-address` when it is less sure.
If the Edit delivery address tool is on, your customer can see the result and fix their own address on the Thank you or Order status page.
Different countries, different depth
Some countries have detailed postal records, so Tacey can confirm the exact building. In others, the best available check confirms the town or area. Tacey tells you which is which. See Which countries does Tacey check addresses in?.
You choose which countries get checked
By default, every country is checked. If you only want some countries checked, you can change that in Editing Tools > Global settings, under Which countries to check. Orders to countries you switch off still go through normally; they just do not get an address check. See How do I choose which countries Tacey checks?.
It never costs you a sale
If an address-checking service is slow or unavailable, the order goes through exactly as normal. Tacey marks that order Not checked instead of guessing. Your customer sees nothing unusual. See What happens if Tacey's address check is unavailable?.
When an address changes later
If a customer fixes their address with Tacey's tool, or your team changes the address on the order in Shopify, Tacey checks the new address again. That re-check does not count as another order on your plan.
What this does NOT do
It does not block checkout. The check happens after the order is placed.
It does not cancel or hold orders because of a bad result. It tells you and your customer; you decide what to do.
It does not change an address by itself. A suggested correction is only applied when your customer chooses it, or, if you turn on Apply confident corrections automatically in the Edit delivery address tool, for a correction Tacey is very sure about, and the customer is told.
It is not a fraud check. It tells you whether a parcel can arrive, nothing about the customer.
It does not check orders with no shipping address, such as digital-only orders.
Frequently asked
Do I need to set anything up for address checks to work?
No. Checks start with your next order after you install Tacey and choose a plan. For your customers to see results and fix their own address, add Tacey to your Thank you and Order status pages and turn on the Edit delivery address tool.
Does every order count toward my plan?
Each new order with a shipping address counts once. Re-checks after an address change do not count. If you go over your plan's orders for the period, new orders are marked Not checked until your count resets or you upgrade.
