By default, a customer can upgrade to any faster rate your checkout would offer them. If you only want to offer one or two, for example your express service but not overnight, switch to Specific rates and pick them.
Where to set it
Editing Tools → Tools → Upgrade shipping method → Which shipping rates can be offered.
The page reminds you: "These come from your own shipping settings in Shopify. Every rate is offered until you narrow it down."
Option 1: Every rate my checkout offers (default)
"The customer can pick any rate your checkout would quote for their address today."
Tacey asks Shopify for the live rates for the customer's order and address, and shows every one that costs more than their current shipping. This is the simplest choice and stays correct when you change your rates in Shopify.
Option 2: Specific rates
"Only the rates you pick below."
Choose Specific rates.
Under Rates to offer, click Add a rate.
Search your rates and pick one. The list comes from the rates in your Shopify shipping settings.
Add any others you want to offer.
Click Save.
Customers then only see rates on your list, and only those that cost more than what they already have and that your checkout offers for their address.
Pick at least one. With Specific rates chosen and nothing picked, the page warns: "Nothing chosen yet. With specific rates selected, your customers will see no rates until you add one."
Carrier-calculated rates
A rate your carrier quotes live, such as a UPS or FedEx service, only exists once a customer's address is known, so it may not appear in the list. You can type its name instead. The page explains: "A rate your carrier quotes live, such as a UPS or FedEx service, only appears once a customer's address is known, so you can also type its name exactly as your checkout shows it."
Type it exactly as your checkout shows it, including capital letters and spacing. Tacey matches rates by their name, so a name that differs by one character will never be offered.
When a rate you picked no longer exists
If you rename or delete a rate in Shopify, it stays on your list but is marked: "This no longer matches a rate your checkout offers. Remove it." A rate that does not exist cannot be offered, so nothing breaks, but remove it to keep the list clear.
If the list cannot load, you see "We could not load your shipping rates right now. Reload the page to try again." Your saved choices are not changed.
The Manage shipping rates in Shopify link takes you to your Shopify shipping settings.
Tips
Offer the rates that genuinely make a difference, such as express and next-day.
Keep prices in Shopify. Tacey never has its own copy of a price, so there is nothing to keep in sync.
Test with a real order to your own address to see exactly what a customer sees.
What this does NOT do
It does not set prices. Prices always come from your Shopify shipping settings at the moment the customer looks.
It does not offer a rate your checkout would not offer for that address, even if it is on your list.
It does not offer cheaper rates. Downgrades are not supported.
