Knowing the customer's side makes it easier to answer their questions. Here is the whole Recommended for you flow, from the carousel to the payment, and what happens if they walk away halfway.
The carousel
Inside the Tacey block ("Make changes to your order"), the recommendations appear as a row of cards:
Three cards per view on a computer, two on a phone. Arrows labelled "Previous products" and "Next products" move one card at a time. A single recommendation fills the row as one wide card.
Each card shows the photo, the price, your compare-at price struck through when the product is on sale in Shopify, and your offer label (for example "15% off") if you set a discount.
A product with more than one size or colour has an Option picker. Changing it changes the price shown.
An option that is sold out shows Sold out and cannot be chosen. You only see this if you turned off Hide out-of-stock items.
Prices are shown in the customer's own currency and language.
Adding an item, step by step
The customer taps Choose on a card. The button changes to Chosen.
They set the Quantity, up to your Maximum quantity per item.
They tap Review the amount. Tacey asks Shopify for the exact figure: the item, any discount, any shipping charge you set, and tax.
They see the amount and a note that it is Shopify's own calculated total. They tap Confirm & pay, or Back to change their mind. Nothing has been charged yet.
The item is added to the order and the card shows Added to your order.
If money is owed, they see Payment due and a Pay now button that opens Shopify's own payment page for the difference. If nothing is owed, they see "Nothing further is owed."
If the item stopped being available between showing and confirming, the customer sees "This item can no longer be added to your order. Please choose another."
What you see on the order
The new item appears as its own line on the same order. Tacey never creates a second order.
While payment is owed, the order carries a hold on fulfilment, and a `tacey-payment-owed` tag, so it does not ship before the customer pays.
When the customer pays, the hold is released and the order ships as normal with the new item in the box.
The change is recorded in Tacey's Ledger: what was added, the amount, who asked, and whether the payment arrived.
If the customer never pays
Tacey waits for payment. The wait is set by Hours to wait for payment on an added item in the Change product options tool (24 hours by default). When it runs out without a payment:
Tacey takes the unpaid item back off the order. No money moves, because none was collected.
A note is left on the order explaining that the customer never paid for it.
The hold is released so the rest of the order can ship.
If the payment arrives at the last moment, Tacey checks again right before removing anything and leaves the item in place.
Things that are always true
The customer is only ever offered products you sell in their market.
The amount they pay is Shopify's own figure, shown before they confirm.
A customer cannot add a product this tool did not offer on their order, even by sending a request directly.
What this does NOT do
It does not swipe by touch. Customers use the arrows to move through the carousel.
It does not add anything on credit forever. An unpaid item comes back off the order when the wait runs out.
It does not email the customer an extra "order changed" message. They are already on the page, watching it happen.
