A customer remembers, a minute after paying, that they meant to add a second one or the matching accessory. Add a product lets them search your store from their Thank you page or Order status page and add it to the same order, in the same shipment, paying only the difference through Shopify's own payment page.
What this tool does
The Add a product to your order row opens a search. The customer finds a product, picks an option and a quantity, reviews the exact amount Shopify calculates, and confirms. The product is added as a new line on the same order. Tacey never creates a second order or a draft order.
Like your other tools, it is on by default, and every active product in your store is searchable until you narrow it down.
Before you start
Add the Tacey block to the Thank you page in Shopify's checkout editor and to the Order status page in the customer accounts editor. Without the block, customers see nothing, whatever you turn on in Tacey.
How to set it up
In Tacey, open Editing Tools.
On the Thank you page card, click Set up tools.
Click Set up next to Add a product to your order.
Choose Which products can be searched: Every product, Specific collections or Specific tags.
If you chose collections or tags, add them under Collections or Tags.
Check Hide out-of-stock products and Maximum quantity per add.
Optional: pick Locations an added item may ship from.
Click Save, then Turn on if the tool is off.
Every setting
Setting | Default | What it does |
Which products can be searched | Every product | Scopes the catalog a customer can browse and add from. |
Collections / Tags | None | Only shown when you scope the catalog. With a scoped mode and nothing added, customers see no products at all. |
Hide out-of-stock products | On | Products with no option in stock are dropped from search results entirely, rather than shown disabled. |
Maximum quantity per add | 5 (1 to 20) | The most of one item a customer may add in a single request. |
Locations an added item may ship from | None (Shopify's usual default location) | Restricts which of your locations can fulfil an added item. |
What the customer sees
They tap Add on the Add a product to your order row.
They type in Search products ("Search by name") and tap Search, or browse with Previous and Next.
They tap View on a product, choose an Option, and set a Quantity.
Tacey shows Shopify's own calculated total, including tax, and Payment due if anything is owed. They tap Confirm & pay, or Back.
The product is added and they see Added to your order. If money is owed, Pay now opens Shopify's payment page. If not, they see "Nothing further is owed."
What you see
The new item appears as its own line on the order, even if the same option was already on it. While payment is owed, the order is held from fulfilment and tagged `tacey-payment-owed`. Every add is written to your Ledger. If the customer never pays, the item is taken back off the order after the payment wait (24 hours by default) and the hold is released.
What this does NOT do
It does not offer products outside your scope, even if a customer knows the product exists. The scope is checked again at the moment of adding.
It does not offer products outside the customer's market, or Draft and Archived products.
It does not discount the item or add a shipping charge. For suggested items with a discount or shipping charge, use Recommended for you.
It does not take anything off the order. To swap an item, use Replace product or Change product options.
It does not work on every order. Orders paid with Shop Pay Installments, created by another app, still waiting for payment, placed before 2019, local delivery, business-account, cancelled or merged orders, and orders past their edit window are refused.
