You do not have to open Tacey to use it. Once Tacey is installed, it adds a card and a few actions to Shopify's own order page, and one action to Shopify's draft order page. This article walks through each one.
None of them changes an order on its own. Each one either shows you something, opens Tacey on the right screen, or asks you to press a button in Tacey. A button that does change something (Use suggested address on a draft) says exactly what it will change first.
Where to find them
Open any order in your Shopify admin (Orders, then the order). Click More actions at the top right. Under the Shopify actions, Tacey's entries are listed together:
Merge with another order
Re-validate address
See customer's changes (only on an order the customer changed)
Approve refund in Tacey (only on an order with a refund waiting for your approval)
Open in Tacey
The Tacey order summary card is different: it sits in the Blocks area lower on the page, and you add it yourself once (see below).
Two things to know:
A cold admin page can take 15 to 25 seconds before Tacey's entries appear. Some entries also appear on the second open of More actions rather than the first. Wait a few seconds, close the menu and open it again before deciding an entry is missing.
Orders older than 60 days show no Tacey entries. Shopify does not let Tacey read them.
You do not need to do anything to get the menu entries: they are listed as soon as Tacey is installed and up to date. The card is the only one you place.
1. The Tacey order summary card
A small card on the order page that answers "what is going on with this order in Tacey?" without leaving Shopify.
Add it once:
Open any order and scroll to Blocks (under Metafields). It shows a dashed box with + Block.
Click + Block and choose Tacey order summary.
The card appears in Preview. Click the pin icon at its top right. The tooltip says Unpin from page for all staff: from then on it shows on every order, for every staff member.
What it shows, one labelled row each (rows with nothing to say are left out):
Row | What it tells you |
To do | Everything waiting on you, for example A refund of 36.80 USD is waiting for your approval in Tacey. When nothing is: Nothing is waiting on you. |
Money | Money that already moved because of a customer change. Left out when none did. |
Order | Whether customers can still edit: Customer can edit until ..., Edit window closed ... or Customer editing is switched off. |
Address | The address check result (Verified, Needs attention, Undeliverable, Not checked) and, when it is not Verified, the reason. |
Last change | The newest change a customer made and when. |
Two buttons: Open in Tacey (opens this order in Tacey) and Changes (opens Order changes filtered to this order).
Limits and refusals:
With no active plan the card says Tacey's order details need an active plan. with an Open Tacey button.
If Tacey cannot read the order: Tacey could not read this order right now. Nothing changed. Try again in a moment. A single part that cannot be read says Could not be read just now. Reload the page to try again. It never claims "nothing is waiting" for a part it could not read.
Shopify may print Warning! This Block is too tall above the card on a phone-width window or when several rows are filled. It is Shopify's own height check; the card still works. UNPROVEN whether the latest layout still triggers it.
2. Open in Tacey
More actions, then Open in Tacey opens this order inside Tacey, on the order's own screen (the same one you reach from Orders in Tacey). Use it to see the address check, what the customer changed, money and holds.
If it opens the Orders list instead of one order, reopen it from the order page. If Tacey has never seen the order (placed before Tacey was installed) the screen says Tacey has no record of it.
3. Merge with another order
More actions, then Merge with another order asks Tacey whether this order can be combined with another and shows one of four answers:
Answer | What you see | Next step |
Can be merged | #1234 can be merged. Choose the order to merge it with in Tacey. You will review everything there before anything changes. | Continue in Tacey opens the merge screen with this order already chosen. |
Cannot be merged | #1234 cannot be merged, then Tacey will not merge this order because: and one reason per line. | No button. Nothing to do here. |
Could not read | Tacey could not read this order from Shopify, so it cannot be merged from here. Orders placed more than 60 days ago cannot be read. If this order is newer, try again in a moment. | Try again. |
No plan | Order Merge needs an active Tacey plan. Open Tacey to choose one. | Open Tacey. |
The window never merges anything. The merge itself happens in Tacey after you review it. The entry is not offered on an order Tacey already knows is cancelled or was absorbed into another. For the full rules see How do I set up Order Merge and Why can't these orders be merged?.
4. Re-validate address
More actions, then Re-validate address shows what Tacey already found about this order's shipping address and lets you run the check again.
The window opens with Reading this order's address check... and then the stored result: a badge (Verified, Needs attention, Undeliverable, Not checked), Checked with the date, one sentence saying why, and the shipping address. When the check found a better address it shows Current address beside Suggested address.
Click Run validation again to run it now. The button shows Checking the address... and then a green Checked again just now.
Things to know:
It never changes the order in Shopify. It only updates Tacey's own record of the check. No tag or note is written back.
The Checked time may not move. If the address has not changed since the last check, Tacey serves the earlier answer instead of paying for another lookup. That is correct.
If the check cannot run, the window says We couldn't check it right now. Nothing changed. and keeps the old result. Orders are never blocked by a failed check.
Other answers: Tacey has not checked this order's address, so there is no result to check again. Orders are checked when they arrive. (no button), This order has no shipping address to check., Address validation needs an active Tacey plan. (with Open Tacey).
If your plan's monthly address checks are used up, the result shows Not checked with the reason and Run validation again is disabled.
To fix a wrong address, use Tacey's order screen (Open in Tacey) or let the customer fix it. This window only checks.
5. Approve refund in Tacey
This entry appears only when a refund is waiting for your approval on the order. It never appears otherwise.
More actions, then Approve refund in Tacey.
The window says A refund is waiting for your approval. Nothing is refunded until you approve it in Tacey.
Click Review and approve in Tacey. Tacey opens the order. Approve the refund there, where you see the amount and where it goes.
The window itself refunds nothing. Money moves only when you press Approve in Tacey. With no waiting refund: No refund is waiting for your approval on this order. With no plan: Approving refunds needs an active Tacey plan. See Approve a refund that is waiting.
6. See customer's changes
This entry appears only on an order the customer changed through Tacey. (Seen live: absent on an order the customer never touched.)
More actions, then See customer's changes.
The window shows Changes by the customer: N, Last change with the date, and then each change newest first: the sentence (for example The customer applied a discount to this order. or The customer increased ... from 1 to 2.), what the money did (¥27,482 was refunded as store credit.) and the time.
It lists the newest five. If there are more: And N more. See them all in Tacey.
See the changes in Tacey opens Order changes filtered to this order. Close shuts the window.
A change of the address or contact names the field only (for example "shipping address (address, postal code)"). The old and new values are in Tacey's order screen, not in Shopify's window. Sentences and money follow your store's Tacey language, while the window's own labels follow the language of your Shopify admin, so you may see both on one screen.
7. Check address with Tacey, on a draft order
Shopify's Draft order page has its own Tacey entry: More actions, then Check address with Tacey. Use it before you send the customer an invoice.
Open the draft order, click More actions, choose Check address with Tacey. The window says Checking this draft's shipping address...
You get a badge and one sentence:
Badge | Meaning |
Looks right | This address was confirmed as deliverable. |
Needs a fix | Tacey found a likely correction to this address. Compare the two addresses below. Current address sits beside Suggested address. |
Placed on the map | Tacey found the area but there is no postal check for this country, so it could not confirm delivery. |
Could not confirm | The postal service could not confirm it and Tacey has no correction. Check with your customer before sending the invoice. |
Could not check | Not checked right now. You can still send the invoice. The sentence says why: the address service did not answer, this draft was checked too many times in 24 hours, your store used all the checks allowed in 24 hours, or your plan's checks this month are used. |
No address | The draft has no shipping address yet. |
Now an order | The draft was completed and is an order now. Tacey does not change it here. Open the order takes you to it. |
On Needs a fix, read Using the suggestion changes: ... Only the shipping address is updated. Nothing is charged, no invoice is sent and no order is created. Then click Use suggested address. The window says The draft's address was updated and which parts changed (street, city, state or province, postal code). If shipping or tax follows the new address, it also shows the draft total before and after.
What it refuses, and says so: an invoice already sent (it only checks), a company draft (only checks), a draft that is not open, a draft that changed while you were looking (Close this window and check it again), a draft completed while you were looking, and an address Shopify does not accept. Nothing is changed in each case.
Tacey keeps a record of the change, including the old and new address; it is erased if the customer's data is erased. A draft with no customer records only which fields changed and the two totals. Opening the window again after a fix says Tacey has already fixed this draft's address from here.
8. Sidekick
Shopify's assistant, Sidekick, can take you to an order in Tacey. Ask for example open order #1721 in Tacey and Tacey opens on that order's screen. Sidekick uses an action called Open an order in Tacey. It only opens the page.
Sidekick cannot fix an address or change an order for you here. Tacey also does not show an address card inside Sidekick; that card is switched off for now. For a wrong address, Sidekick opens the order and you fix it in Tacey.
If you ask about an order number that does not exist, Sidekick answers that it cannot find it.
For the questions Sidekick can answer about Tacey, see Questions you can ask Sidekick about Tacey.
Frequently asked
I do not see Tacey in More actions. Wait a few seconds and reopen the menu. Entries that depend on the order (See customer's changes, Approve refund) only show when they apply. Orders older than 60 days show none.
The card is missing. It is not there until someone adds and pins it under Blocks on an order.
Can my staff use these? Yes. Each staff member sees them in their own admin. The card, once pinned, shows for every staff member.

On 2026-10-25 on the dev store the More actions menu of order #1226 was read live (Merge with another order, Re-validate address, See customer's changes, Open in Tacey were listed; Approve refund in Tacey was absent because no refund is held) and See customer's changes was opened: Changes by the customer: 2, last change, the discount and quantity changes, See the changes in Tacey and Close. Screenshot in `docs/eyeball/October 2026/2026-10-25-ronin-tcy-2218-help-gaps`.

The card's current layout against Shopify's height warning was not re-checked. UNPROVEN.
The staff member's own Shopify admin language, an order with more than five changes, and the no-plan states were never driven. UNPROVEN.
