Sidekick is Shopify's assistant inside your admin. Once Tacey is installed on an active plan, Sidekick can look up what Tacey has recorded for your store and answer in plain words, with a link to the right page in Tacey. This article lists seventeen questions that work, what each one answers and where its link goes. Paste any of them into Sidekick as they are, or save the ones you use often as your own skills.
Sidekick only reads. It cannot change an order or move money, and it never shows a customer's name, email, phone number or street address.
Say "Tacey" in the question
Sidekick can use many apps at once, and a short question such as "What plan am I on?" is often answered with your Shopify plan instead of your Tacey plan. When the question says "Tacey", or "according to Tacey", Sidekick goes to Tacey's records. Every question below already says it. If Sidekick answers from another app or from Shopify itself, ask the same thing again and put "in Tacey" in the sentence.
A few things to know before you start:
Your Tacey plan has to be active. If it is not, Sidekick tells you Tacey has no figures to give. Choosing a plan brings the answers back.
Order numbers are the numbers you see in your admin, such as 1042. Swap the example number for one of your own. Questions about one order work with the number alone.
Long lists come back ten at a time. Sidekick says when a list is only part of the answer and how many more there are. Ask it to continue and it pulls the next page.
Sidekick can use up to 20 apps in one store. If you have many apps, Sidekick may not reach for Tacey every time. Naming Tacey in the question is the best fix.
Your address checks
Ask Sidekick | What it answers | Where the link goes |
Which orders in Tacey have an address problem? | The newest orders whose address check needs a look, up to ten, each with a plain reason (for example, a missing apartment or unit number), the country, and how many more are flagged beyond the ten. | The order on Tacey's Orders page |
Why did Tacey flag order 1693? | The reason for one order: its status and which checks did not pass, in a sentence. If the order was not flagged, Sidekick says so and says the address was confirmed. | That order in Tacey |
How many addresses did Tacey check this month, and which countries have the most problems? | How many addresses were checked, how many need attention, and the countries with the most flagged, as counts and percentages. The country list covers the 20 countries with the most checks. | The Orders page |
What your customers changed
Ask Sidekick | What it answers | Where the link goes |
What did customers change on order 1042, according to Tacey? | Each change Tacey recorded on that order after checkout: what kind, who asked, when, whether it went through and whether any money was involved. Sidekick tells you when Tacey recorded nothing. It never shows the old or the new address. | That order in Tacey |
Was a refund or extra charge recorded by Tacey on order 1042? | The refunds and charges Tacey recorded on that one order, with the amounts, or that there are none. | That order in Tacey |
Which changes in Tacey moved money this week? | The changes made this week that involved a refund or a charge, newest first, with who asked, the amount and whether it is still owed. | The Order changes page |
What kinds of edits do customers make in Tacey, and which countries do they come from? | How many edits of each kind went through (items, address, cancellations, contact, shipping, notes, discounts), how many different customers made them, and the countries with the most. "Country" means where the order's address was checked, not where the customer is. | The Order changes page |
Tell me everything Tacey has on order 1042. | One order's whole picture: its address check, the changes made and refused, any money waiting on you, whether it was part of a merge, any hold Tacey placed and when it ended, and counts of refunds, disputes and emails. It never shows what a dispute or an email said. | That order in Tacey |
Money waiting on you
Ask Sidekick | What it answers | Where the link goes |
Which refunds or payments in Tacey are waiting on me? | How many money actions are waiting for you and of which kind (failed refunds, held refunds, refunds owed, balances owed), with the newest ten and their amounts. Sidekick offers to pull the rest. | The Order changes page |
How many order edits did Tacey record last week, and how much did it collect or refund? | The number of edits that went through that week, the money Tacey collected and the money it refunded, each in its own currency. If some amounts could not be added up, Sidekick says the total is understated. | The Order changes page |
Which orders has Order Merge in Tacey combined, and is any shipping refund still owed? | The newest merges, which order was kept, whether each finished, and which ones still owe a shipping refund. It does not give the refund amount. | The merge history on Tacey's Order Merge page |
Your plan, your setup and your holds
Ask Sidekick | What it answers | Where the link goes |
What Tacey plan am I on, and how many orders have I used this period? | Your Tacey plan, the orders used out of the limit, the percentage, and the dates your current 30-day period started and resets. Tacey counts in 30-day periods, not calendar months. This is your Tacey plan, not your Shopify plan. | Billing |
How is Tacey doing this month? | The numbers on Tacey's Home page for the period: addresses checked, edits, money added and refunded, and money waiting. | Home |
Is Tacey set up right? Is anything switched on but unable to work? | Whether editing is on, how many customer tools are on, and anything that is switched on but cannot work, in plain words. When all is well, Sidekick says so. | Home |
Which orders is Tacey holding back from fulfilment? | The orders Tacey is holding, why (the edit window, a payment still due or an unfinished merge) and when each hold ends. Holds from other apps are not included. | The order in Tacey |
How is my Tacey edit window set? | Whether editing is on and how long customers have to make a change. You can ask about other settings the same way, such as refunds, merges or reminders. | Settings |
How is the cancel order tool set up in Tacey? | How one customer tool is configured: whether it is on, what it changes, whether money can move and the choices you made. Swap "cancel order" for another tool's name. | Editing Tools |
Save a question as your own skill
A Sidekick skill is a prompt you keep and run again later. In Sidekick, type a slash (/) in the box: a list of skills opens, and New Skill sits at the bottom of it. Skills belong to your store and to Shopify. Tacey cannot add one for you, and Tacey cannot see or change the ones you save. The simplest way to reuse a question from this article is to save it as a skill whose instructions are the question word for word, including the word "Tacey".
We have not walked through creating a skill from start to finish, so the steps after New Skill are not written here. Follow what Sidekick shows you, or Shopify's own help page for Sidekick skills. Whether you can share a skill by link, and how many skills your store can keep, depends on your store. Tacey has no say in either.
What Sidekick will not do with Tacey
It does not change anything. It cannot edit, refund, cancel, merge or hold an order, turn a tool on or off, or change a setting. Sidekick answers from what Tacey has recorded and gives you a link so you can act in Tacey yourself.
It does not move money. Questions about refunds and charges are answered from Tacey's record. Nothing is sent, refunded or collected by asking.
It never shows a customer's name, email, phone number or street address. Orders are identified by order number. Where a customer left a rating, Sidekick knows at most that a comment exists, never what it says.
It does not give advice. Sidekick quotes Tacey's numbers. It does not tell you what to change, which plan to buy or what to do next, and a question like "Should I upgrade?" is answered with Shopify's own help, not with Tacey's figures.
It does not see anything outside Tacey's records. Tacey only records edits made through Tacey. An order Tacey never touched has no history, and Sidekick says Tacey recorded nothing, which is not the same as nothing having changed in Shopify.
It does not know whether a customer can still edit an order right now. That depends on Shopify's live state. Open the order in Tacey to check.
It may be slow to answer or may skip Tacey. Shopify decides when Sidekick uses an app and how long it waits. If a question comes back with nothing from Tacey, ask again with "in Tacey" in the sentence.
If an answer looks wrong
Open the link Sidekick gives you and read the record in Tacey: that page is the source. If Sidekick and the page disagree, tell us through the support chat in Tacey and include the question you asked.
