Use Tacey from Claude or ChatGPT

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your store so you can ask about your orders, address checks, refunds and notifications in plain words, and disconnect whenever you like.

Written by Joseph Odera

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your store and ask questions about your Tacey records in plain words, for example "Which refunds do I still owe?" or "Which orders have an address problem this week?". On a live store the assistant can only read: it never changes an order or moves money, and it never sees a customer's name, email, phone number or street address.

What your store gets today

On every live store, Claude and ChatGPT can only read. They can look up what Tacey has recorded and answer. They cannot change an order, merge orders, hold or release an order, change a Tacey setting, send an email to a customer, refund anything or move money, and nothing in Tacey or in the assistant lets you switch that on.

What you see in Tacey

The Integrations page and the approval screen show reading only, with no list of actions to switch on (this is how Tacey is built; we have not yet looked at it on a live store)

Switches and tick boxes for the actions being tested

We are testing changes from the chat on our own test store and nothing from that test reaches a live store. When it is turned on for live stores, this article and the two step-by-step articles will say what it does, how you switch it on and what you approve each time.

What it does

Once connected, the assistant can look up what Tacey has recorded for your store and answer from it. It reads your records at the moment you ask, so the answer is as current as Tacey is.

You can ask about

Examples of what it answers

Address checks

which orders have an address problem and what the problem is, including only the ones that have not shipped; how many addresses checked out this month; the address check result for one order

Changes customers made

what was changed on one order after checkout; how many changes customers made this month, by country or by type

Money

refunds and payments still waiting on you, and a summary of money that moved because of order changes

Merges

which orders were merged, and which pairs of orders fit your merge conditions today

Customer requests

requests customers sent from Shopify's order page asking to remove items, still waiting for your answer, oldest first

Notifications

the notifications Tacey shows you, newest first, including which ones are waiting on you

Customer ratings

the ratings customers gave after changing an order, with the average and how many, and whether a comment was left (never the comment itself)

Your setup

whether Tacey is set up right, how each tool is configured, your editing and merge rules, and the orders Tacey is holding

Your plan

your plan and how many orders you have used this period

What assistants have read

which assistants asked about your store, and when

Analytics

a link that opens a Tacey report with the filters you asked for already set, for example refunds last month by country

Help

which Tacey help articles answer a how-to question, with links

Whenever the answer has a page in Tacey, the assistant gives you a link that opens that page in your Shopify admin.

What it does not do

  • It does not change anything on a live store. It cannot edit, refund, cancel, merge or hold an order, change a Tacey setting or send an email to a customer, and it never moves money. It reads.

  • It never sees customer names, emails, phone numbers or street addresses. Orders are identified by their order number, such as #1042. When customers leave a rating with a comment, the assistant is told only that a comment exists, never what it says.

  • It cannot see any other store, even if you are signed in to several.

  • It does not keep your questions or its answers in Tacey. Tacey records that a question was asked, which kind of information it asked for, how many records were read and when. That is all.

  • It does not need a separate account or a separate price. It uses the plan you already have.

  • It is not a way to reach Tacey support. If something looks wrong in an answer, open the page it links to and check the record yourself.

What you need first

  • An active Tacey plan. Tacey has no free plan; every store that uses it is on one of the six plans. If your plan is not active (for example you cancelled and the period has ended), a connected assistant gets no figures from Tacey and tells you so, and the Integrations page shows a notice that your plan is not active. Choose a plan and the assistant answers again. A plan that is set to end at the close of the current period still works until then.

  • A Claude or ChatGPT account that lets you add your own connection. Both apps call this a connector or an app, and the names of the menus change as they update their products. Some work or team accounts only let an administrator add one. If you cannot find the option, ask whoever manages your account.

  • Someone who can open Tacey in the Shopify admin. Only you and your staff can approve a connection.

Connect Claude

The full walk-through, with a picture of each screen, is in Connect Claude to Tacey, step by step. In short:

  1. In Tacey, open Integrations, then Claude, and copy the address shown there.

  2. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, add a custom connector, paste the address and add it.

  3. Choose Connect. A Tacey page asks for your store address, then your Shopify admin shows Let Claude read your Tacey records? with what Claude will and will not be able to do.

  4. Choose Approve. You are taken back to Claude, which shows the connector as connected. Choose Cancel instead and nothing is connected.

  5. In Tacey, the Claude page now shows Connected, who connected it and when. Ask a question in a new Claude chat with the connector switched on.

Connect ChatGPT

The full walk-through, with a picture of each screen, is in Connect ChatGPT to Tacey, step by step. In short:

  1. In Tacey, open Integrations, then ChatGPT, and copy the address shown there.

  2. In ChatGPT, open Plugins (`chatgpt.com/plugins`), choose Add, then Add custom MCP server. Enter a name and the address, and choose OAuth as the sign-in. Under Advanced OAuth settings tick `mcp:read` only.

  3. Tick I understand and want to continue, choose Create as a plugin, and continue in the dialog.

  4. A Tacey page asks for your store address, then your Shopify admin shows Let ChatGPT read your Tacey records?. Choose Approve.

  5. You return to ChatGPT, where the plugin is listed under Created by you. Open a new chat, add the plugin from the plus button, and ask.

If Claude says "Authorization with this connector failed." Start the connection again from Connect. If it appears twice in a row, contact us and give us the reference code Claude shows under the message. More in Connect Claude to Tacey, step by step.

Refresh the list when Tacey adds new things it can look up

Claude remembers the list of things it can look up the first time it connects. When Tacey adds a new one, a connected Claude does not find out by itself. Until you refresh, it can honestly tell you that nothing it has covers your question. We saw exactly that: before a refresh Claude said it had no way to read notifications, and after a refresh it answered from them.

To refresh in Claude:

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors (`claude.ai/new#customize/connectors`), and open the Tacey connector under your own connectors.

  2. Open the connector's menu and choose Refresh tools list.

  3. Start a new chat with the connector turned on, and ask again.

Check the count shown on the connector page after refreshing; the number of things it can look up grows over time. If you ask for something that you know Tacey can do and Claude says it cannot, refresh first.

For ChatGPT, see Connect ChatGPT to Tacey, step by step. We have not yet confirmed how ChatGPT picks up new items.

On our test store the count Claude showed went from 20 to 22 after a refresh on 14 October 2026, and showed 30 read-only tools on 17 October 2026, because the list grows. A live store may show a different number.

See what an assistant read

Open Integrations, then Claude or ChatGPT. Under What this assistant read you see the last 30 days: how many requests were made and how many records were read, then one line for each request with the kind of information it asked for (for example "Orders with address problems" or "Money waiting on you") and the time. Tacey shows counts and times only. It never keeps the question that was asked or the answer that was given.

Disconnect

You can disconnect at any time.

  1. In Tacey, open Integrations, then Claude or ChatGPT.

  2. Under Connections, choose Disconnect on the connection you want to end. The row disappears and the assistant can no longer read anything from your store.

  3. To end every assistant at once, for example when a staff member leaves, choose Disconnect all. An assistant can be connected again by approving it again.

  4. If you also want it gone from the assistant itself, remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT.

Disconnecting in Tacey is what stops access. Removing the connector only in Claude or ChatGPT hides it there; use Disconnect in Tacey as well.

Frequently asked

Can the assistant see my customers' emails or addresses?

No. Names, emails, phone numbers and street addresses are never given to it. Order numbers, dates, amounts, statuses and countries are.

Can it refund an order or change an address for me?

Not on a live store. Changes from the chat are being tested on our own test store only, and they are switched off for every live store. Today the assistant can tell you what needs doing and link you to the page in Tacey, and you press the button yourself. It will never refund or move money on its own.

Does it cost extra?

No. It is included with your plan.

Can two assistants be connected at once?

Yes, for example Claude and ChatGPT, each with its own connection and its own list of what it read. We have connected both to our test store, one after the other, and have not asked both questions at the same moment.

I removed a staff member. What happens to their connection?

Use Disconnect all on the Integrations page, then reconnect the assistants you still want.

I use Shopify's Sidekick. Is that the same thing?

Sidekick is built into your Shopify admin and needs nothing set up. It reads the same Tacey records. Claude and ChatGPT are separate apps you connect yourself.
