Connect Claude to Tacey, step by step

After reading this you will be able to connect Claude to your store, approve it safely, ask about your Tacey records, and disconnect it.

Written by Joseph Odera

Connect Claude to your store and ask it about your Tacey records in plain words, such as "Which refunds do I still owe?" or "Which orders have an address problem this week?". On every live store Claude can only read. It cannot change an order, merge orders, hold or release an order, change a Tacey setting, send an email to a customer, refund anything or move money, and nothing in Tacey or in Claude lets you switch that on. We are testing changes from the chat on our own test store only; they are switched off for every live store. It never sees a customer's name, email, phone number or street address.

This article walks through every screen, in order. For what the connection can and cannot do in general, and for ChatGPT, see Use Tacey from Claude or ChatGPT and Connect ChatGPT to Tacey, step by step.

Before you start

  • An active Tacey plan. Tacey has no free plan. If your plan is not active, Claude connects but gets no figures from Tacey and tells you so. Choose a plan on the Billing page and it answers again.

  • A Claude account that lets you add your own connector. Claude calls this a connector. Some work or team accounts only let an administrator add one. If you cannot find the option below, ask whoever manages your Claude account.

  • Access to Tacey in your Shopify admin. Only you and your staff can approve a connection.

  • Your store's Shopify address, the one that ends in `.myshopify.com`. You will type it once.

Step 1. Copy the address from Tacey

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Tacey, then Integrations, then Claude. (You can also start from Connect Claude on the Tacey Home page.)

  2. Copy the address shown there. On a live store it is `https://service.tacey.app/mcp`. Always copy it from your own Integrations page rather than typing it.

Step 2. Add the connector in Claude

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.

  2. Open your own connectors (the Yours list) and choose Add, then Add custom connector.

  3. Give it a name you will recognise, for example "Tacey", paste the address, and choose Add.

Not recorded yet: we have not filmed this Add step on a brand new connector with the current Claude screens, so the exact button wording may differ slightly from the above. Claude moves these menus now and then. Look for the place to add a custom connector under Customize and Connectors.

Step 3. Connect and tell Tacey which store

  1. Open the connector you added and choose Connect.

  2. A page from Tacey opens, titled Connect Tacey to Claude. It asks for your store address. Type your `.myshopify.com` address and choose Continue.

  3. Your Shopify admin opens. If Shopify asks you to sign in, sign in as you normally do. Tacey never sees your Shopify password.

Step 4. Read the approval screen, then approve

Tacey shows you what you are about to allow before anything is connected. The page is titled Let Claude read your Tacey records? on a live store, and is shown in the language Tacey is set to for your store. On our test store, where changes are being tested, the page also lists the actions switched on, with tick boxes; you will not see those on a live store.

Shown on a test store. Your store's address appears in the first line.

The page says

What it means for you

"Claude asked to connect to your store. You are the one approving it."

The connection is for this one store, and you are the person agreeing to it.

Claude will be able to see: which orders have an address problem and what the problem is; the order changes and refunds Tacey recorded, with their amounts and dates; refunds and payments still waiting on you; your plan and how many orders you have used this period

These are the things it can answer questions about.

Claude will not be able to: change, refund, cancel or merge any order; see customer names, emails, phone numbers or street addresses; see any other store

These stay out of reach, even if you ask. Orders are identified only by their number, such as #1042.

"You can disconnect it at any time from this page."

See Disconnect below.

"After you choose, your browser goes back to claude.ai."

Approving sends you back to Claude.

Choose Approve. Choose Cancel if you changed your mind; nothing is connected.

What "approve" gives Claude, in plain words. Approving is the same kind of step as "Sign in with Google" on other websites. Claude does not get your Shopify password or Tacey login. Tacey gives Claude a connection that works only for your store and only for reading. Tacey lists it on your Integrations page with when it was connected and last used, and it stops working the moment you disconnect it.

Step 5. Check that Claude shows it as connected

You land back in Claude on the connector's page. It shows Connected, and under Tool permissions a list headed Read-only tools with a number next to it. These are the things Claude can look up, each with a plain name such as "Order merges" or "Address check on one order". Every one is read only. On our test store on 17 October 2026 the page showed 30 read-only tools and, because changes are being tested there, a second heading with 2 tools marked "Needs approval". A live store should list read-only tools only, and a number that is not the same as ours; we have not yet looked at the page on a live store.

Shown on a test store, with the test store's connector address.

Next to each tool Claude offers three choices: let it run, ask you first, or block it. Leaving the defaults is fine. The first time Claude uses a tool in a chat it may ask your permission with Allow once or Always allow. That is Claude's own safety check, separate from Tacey's approval.

Back in Tacey, Integrations, then Claude now shows Connected, who connected it and when.

Step 6. Ask a question

Start a new chat, make sure the Tacey connector is switched on for it, and ask. Good first questions:

  • Which refunds do I still owe?

  • Which orders have an address problem this week?

  • How many order changes did customers make this month, and how much money moved?

  • Show my unread Tacey notifications.

Claude answers from your live Tacey records at the moment you ask. It names orders by number and gives you a link whenever the answer has a page in Tacey. Check any number that matters against the Tacey page it links to: Claude can misread a figure even when Tacey sent the right one.

Letting Claude make changes: not available on a live store

On every live store the connection is read only. Changes from the chat are switched off for every live store, so you will not find a switch for them in Tacey, a box for them on the approval screen, or a write tool on Claude's connector page. Until they are turned on, Claude can tell you what needs doing and link you to the page in Tacey, and you press the button yourself.

What we have tested, on our own test store only: with the actions switched on in Tacey, Claude's connector page listed two tools marked "Needs approval" next to the read-only ones, and the approval screen offered Re-check addresses and Fix addresses. Asked to change the unit on one order, Claude said first that nothing had changed yet and asked us to confirm, Claude's own box asked Allow once, and then Claude reported the unit was set in Shopify with nothing charged or refunded and no email sent to the customer. We checked the order in Shopify afterwards and the address and its history entry were there. A shipped order was refused and nothing changed. None of this is available to you today.

See what Claude read

Open Integrations, then Claude. Under What this assistant read you see the last 30 days: how many requests Claude made, how many records it read, and one line per request with the kind of information it asked for and the time. Tacey keeps counts and times only. It never keeps your question or Claude's answer.

Disconnect

You can disconnect whenever you like. Do both parts so nothing is left behind.

  1. In Tacey (this is what stops access). Open Integrations, then Claude. Under Connections, choose Disconnect on the connection. The row disappears and Claude can no longer read anything from your store. To end every assistant at once, for example when a staff member leaves, choose Disconnect all.

  2. In Claude (tidy up). Open Customize, then Connectors, open the Tacey connector and choose Disconnect. Disconnecting only in Claude may leave the connection listed in Tacey (we have not checked what Claude's Disconnect tells Tacey), so use Disconnect in Tacey as well.

To connect again later, repeat Steps 3 to 5. We did exactly that on our test store on 17 October 2026 (Disconnect, then Connect) and it worked end to end.

When Tacey adds something new to look up

Claude remembers the list of things it can look up from the moment it connects. When Tacey adds a new one, a connected Claude does not find out by itself. Until you refresh, it can honestly say none of its tools covers your question.

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and open the Tacey connector.

  2. Open the menu on the connector's page (the three dots) and choose Refresh tools list.

  3. Start a new chat with the connector switched on, and ask again.

If you ask for something Tacey can do and Claude says it cannot, refresh first.

If something goes wrong

What you see

What it means

What to do

"Authorization with this connector failed." and a reference code starting `ofid_`

Claude could not finish the sign-in. We saw this twice on a reconnect on 14 October 2026 and have not found its cause. A reconnect through Disconnect, then Connect worked on 17 October 2026 and the message did not appear

Start again from Step 3. If it appears twice in a row, contact us and give us the reference code Claude shows under the message

Claude says it has no figures from Tacey, or answers come back empty

Your Tacey plan is not active

Choose a plan on the Billing page. Claude answers again with no need to reconnect

Claude says none of its tools covers your question, but Tacey can do it

Claude is using its remembered list

Refresh the tools list, then start a new chat

The Tacey page says This connection request is not valid

Tacey could not read the request Claude sent

Go back to Claude and choose Connect again

Tacey says it could not tell who you are

You opened the page outside your Shopify admin

Close it, open Tacey from your Shopify admin again, and reconnect

Claude cannot get answers after many questions in a row

One connection can ask up to 60 times a minute, and Tacey refuses the rest until the minute is over

Wait a minute and ask again

A connection is listed as made by another staff member

A colleague connected it

You can disconnect it if it should not be there

What this does not do

  • It does not change, refund, cancel, merge or hold any order on a live store, does not change a Tacey setting or send an email to a customer, and it never moves money.

  • It never shows Claude customer names, emails, phone numbers or street addresses. If a customer left a rating with a comment, Claude is told only that a comment exists, never what it says.

  • It cannot see any other store, even if you manage several.

  • It does not keep your questions or Claude's answers in Tacey.

  • It costs nothing extra. It uses the plan you already have.

  • It is not a way to contact Tacey support.

Result

A real Claude account connected to our test store, approved, read-only list seen, questions answered from live records

Worked, 14 October 2026

Disconnect, then Connect again in the real Claude app, on 17 October 2026

Worked end to end. The "Authorization failed" message did not appear

Asking for a change from the chat on the test store (an address unit)

Worked there, with Claude asking first; a shipped order was refused. Not available on live stores

Asking Claude for every order that has not shipped, on the test store

Claude read orders one at a time, 76 calls, each asking Allow once, and we stopped it. Tacey's order list now has a not-shipped filter, and we have not repeated the question

A first-time Add of the connector with Claude's current screens
