How do I show a message, with an optional link, on my customers' Thank you and Order status pages?

Set up Tacey's Announcement bar: the message, the page, a schedule, a link such as your shipping policy, and the words in each language.

Written by Joseph Odera

Tell customers something the moment they finish checkout and every time they come back to check their order: "Orders placed this week ship on Monday", a holiday cut-off, a delay. Tacey's Announcement bar shows one short message in Shopify's own announcement strip at the top of those pages, in your customer's language. You can add a link after the message, for example to your shipping policy.

The bar is plain information. It does not touch the order, move any money or send any email.

Before you start: place the extension on each page

Installing Tacey makes the bar available. It does not put it on a page. The announcement is its own extension, named Announcement in Shopify. In Shopify, open the checkout editor on the Thank you page. The left side shows a section called Announcement bar at the very top, above the header; add Announcement to it with Add block (the section holds one block, so it reads Add block (1/1) once placed). You can also open the Apps tab at the far left of the editor, where Announcement is listed under Tacey next to Tacey editing tools. Then do the same in the customer accounts editor for the Order status page, and Save each page: each page is placed separately and has its own Save. Seen in the checkout editor on the dev store on 2026-10-25; the customer accounts editor was not opened for this article, so its click path for the Order status page is UNPROVEN. Until a page is placed, customers see nothing there, and nothing tells you so. The step is the same one described in How do I add Tacey to my Thank you and Order status pages?.

How to set it up

  1. In Tacey, open Editing Tools, then the Tools tab. Under the Thank you page tools, open Announcement bar. The page says A short message at the top of your customer's Thank you and Order status pages, in their own language. You write it, choose the page and switch it off whenever you like.

  2. Under Message, write one short line (up to 160 characters). Your customer reads it exactly as you type it.

  3. Under Where it shows, choose Thank you and Order status (right after checkout, and again when the customer opens their order from Shopify's email), Thank you page only or Order status page only.

  4. Optional: set Start showing and Stop showing (a date and a time each). Times are in your store's timezone, and the page prints the exact moment it will use. Clear empties a time.

  5. Optional: add a link (see below).

  6. Optional: under Your message in other languages, choose Add a language, pick one from the list (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Portuguese (Brazil), Dutch, Polish, Czech, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Korean, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese or Thai), then write the message yourself.

  7. Click Save, then click Turn on at the top if the tool is off. While it is off the page says Announcement bar is off. Your customers cannot see it.

The tool is off until you turn it on. Nothing shows to customers before that, and nothing shows if the message is empty.

Add a link to the message

Setting

What it does

Link address

A web address that starts with `https://`, for example `https://yourstore.com/policies/shipping`. Anything else (`http://`, `javascript:`, an address with no `https://`) is not saved, so no link shows.

Link words

The words your customer clicks, up to 60 characters, for example "Read our shipping policy".

Link words in other languages

Choose Add a language, then write the link words for that language. Remove takes one away. A language you leave out shows the link words above.

The link needs both the address and the words. If one is missing, customers see the message with no link, and the page tells you which half is missing. The link opens the address you typed. Anything you type is shown as plain text, never as formatting or code.

On the Thank you page the link follows the message on the same line, after a space. On the Order status page it sits on the line below the message.

Every setting

Setting

Default

What it does

Message

Empty

The line customers read, up to 160 characters. Empty means nothing shows.

Where it shows

Thank you and Order status

Which pages draw the bar.

Start showing

Empty

Nothing shows before this moment. Empty means as soon as the tool is on.

Stop showing

Empty

Nothing shows after this moment. Empty means until you turn the tool off.

Your message in other languages

None

A message you wrote for a specific language. Customers in a language you leave out read the main message.

Link address, Link words, Link words in other languages

Empty

The optional link described above.

Tacey does not translate your text for you. Write each language yourself if customers should read it in that language.

When the bar shows, and when it does not

What you see on the settings page

What customers see

The tool is on, the message is filled in, the page is chosen and the schedule is open

The bar, in their language where you wrote one.

The tool is off

Nothing.

The message is empty

Nothing.

"It is set to show on the Order status page only" (or Thank you only)

Nothing on the other page.

"The schedule has not started yet"

Nothing until the start time.

"The schedule ended on ..."

Nothing. Change or clear Stop showing to show it again.

Nothing, for everyone including your team, because the bar cannot tell who is looking. It still shows in Shopify's checkout editor preview.

A link address without words, words without an address, or an address that is not `https://`

The message, with no link.

Shopify cannot reach Tacey for a moment

Nothing. The page is never broken by it.

Your customer can always close the bar with Shopify's own close button. That button cannot be switched off, so there is no setting for it. There is also no colour setting: Shopify draws the bar in your store's own look.

What this does NOT do

  • It does not translate for you. Customers in a language you did not write see the main message.

  • It does not link anywhere except `https://` addresses. There is one link per message, and no button.

  • It does not appear on a page you did not place the extension on. Placement is separate for the Thank you page and the Order status page.

  • It does not change the order, charge or refund anything, or send an email.

  • It is not an email or a pop-up. It is one strip at the top of two pages.

  • It is not restricted by your plan. Every plan has it.

What has been seen, and what has not

  • Seen on 2026-10-25 (dev store): the page and its title, the Off state with Turn on, Message (160 characters), the three Where it shows choices, Your message in other languages with Add a language and its list, Start showing and Stop showing (a date and a time in half-hour steps), the link fields, Save, and the How it works panel (Does not change anything in Shopify. Nothing about the order changes. and No money moves. Nothing is charged or refunded.).

  • Driven on a real order (2026-10-11, earlier drive): the bar on the Thank you and Order status pages in English, French, Italian, German, Dutch and British English, at desktop and phone width.

  • Seen on 2026-10-25 (dev store, Shopify checkout editor, Thank you page): the Announcement bar section with Announcement placed and Add block (1/1), and Announcement listed under Tacey in the Apps tab. Nothing was saved or changed.

  • Not driven: the customer accounts editor click path for the Order status page, and the Draft mode row (read from the extension code). UNPROVEN.
