When a customer changes an order, when a refund is waiting for you, or when your plan changes, Tacey emails you from Elin at Tacey and, for most of them, adds an entry to the bell inside Tacey. The Notifications page is where you choose which of those you get, how quickly, and which addresses receive them.
Open the page
In Tacey, open Settings, then Notifications. The page is titled Notifications and says Choose which emails Tacey sends you when a customer changes an order, and where they go.
Change what you need and click Save. A message confirms Notification settings saved. If it cannot save you see Your changes were not saved and can try again. If the page cannot load your settings at all it says Your notification settings could not be loaded: until it loads, every email is sent as normal and saving is switched off. Reload in a moment.
Where emails go
Store notification email shows the address every email goes to. You change it on Global settings (link: Change on Global settings), under Sender identity. If none is set it reads No address is set.
Also send to takes up to 5 extra addresses, one per line or separated by commas. Every email below goes to these as well as your store notification email.
An entry that is not an email address is not saved: the page lists it under These are not valid email addresses and will not be saved. If you type more than five, only the first five are kept.
Warnings next to the controls
The page tells you when a switch is on but cannot do anything:
No email address is set, so none of these emails will be sent. Add an address below or on Global settings.
Tacey cannot send email from this account right now, so none of these emails will be sent. Contact support if this does not clear.
Beside a customer-change email whose tool is off: This email can never be sent while the tool behind it is switched off. It names the tool and links to Open Editing Tools. A customer cannot make that change until the tool is on, so there is nothing to email.
An email set to The bell only sends no email, so it does not need an address.
The customer-change emails you can switch off
Each of these has a switch. Some also let you choose When you hear about it and Where you hear about it (see below). Switching an email off also removes its entry from the bell.
What it tells you | Controls
Shipping address changed | A customer changed their shipping address. | Switch, When, Where |
Address kept after a warning | A customer kept an address Tacey flagged, exactly as they entered it. | Switch, When |
Contact details changed | A customer changed their email or phone number. | The switch is in the contact tool (listed as Update contact details on the Tools tab), not here. The page links to it with Open the Edit contact tool. |
Items changed | A customer added, removed or swapped items. | Switch, Where. If the change moves money you are emailed even when this is off. |
Order cancelled | A customer cancelled their order. | Always on. It involves money, so it cannot be switched off. |
Discount applied | A customer applied a discount. | Switch, Where. If the change moves money you are emailed even when this is off. |
Shipping method upgraded | A customer chose a faster shipping method. | Switch, When |
Note or gift message added | A customer added or changed a note. The note's text is never in the email. | Switch, When |
Orders combined | Two orders were merged. | The same switch as on the Order Merge settings page. |
A customer asked to cancel an item | A customer asked to cancel an item that has not shipped. Shopify already emails the customer; this email is for you. | Switch, on until you turn it off |
Cancellation requests are still waiting | One email a day while a customer's cancellation request waits for your answer. The reminder in the bell stays either way. | Switch, on until you turn it off |
When you hear about it, and Where you hear about it
When you hear about it (on address, kept address, shipping upgrade and note emails) offers Right away or In my summary email. Address changes default to right away; the others default to the summary email.
Where you hear about it (on address, items and discount emails) offers Email and the bell, Email only or The bell only.
Items changed and Discount applied have no When control: a change that moves money is always emailed right away.
The money and hold emails you cannot switch off
These involve money or an order that may not ship, so each reads Always on. It involves money, so it cannot be switched off. (The one exception is the daily refund reminder below.)
What it tells you | |
A refund is waiting for your approval | A customer's change left a refund for you to approve. One email so it is not forgotten. |
A refund could not be sent | A refund you approved did not go through in full. The email names the order and what to do. |
A customer did not pay for their change | A customer changed an order, owed more and did not pay in time. |
An order is on hold until the customer pays | A customer still owes money on a change, so Tacey keeps the order on hold. |
An order is stuck on hold | Tacey could not release a hold it placed, so the order will not ship until you release it. |
Tacey could not hold an order | Tacey could not stop an order from shipping while a customer's change is open. |
A held payment could not be collected | A payment Tacey was holding for an order did not go through. The email says why. |
A shipping refund is owed after a duplicate order | Two orders were combined, so the shipping charged on one is owed back. You approve it. |
You reached your monthly order limit | You used every order your plan includes in this window, so Tacey stops handling new orders. The email names the next plan. |
You can switch off one related email: Remind me about refunds waiting for approval. When a refund has waited for your approval for more than a day, you get one email a day saying how many are waiting, until you deal with them.
Plan emails
What it tells you | Can you switch it off?
Order limit warnings | You have used 80% of the orders your plan includes in a window, and again at 95%, before Tacey stops handling new orders. | Yes |
Your trial is ending | Before your free trial ends, with the date and the price Shopify will charge. | No, always on |
Your plan changed | Your plan, or how it is billed, changed. | Yes |
Your subscription ended | Your Tacey subscription ended. | No, always on |
Your yearly plan renews soon | Seven days before a yearly plan renews, with the date and the price Shopify will charge. | Yes |
Product news
Weekly product news is a short weekly email about what changed in Tacey: Monday to Friday, once a week, and only when something shipped. It shows up to six of the entries from the last 7 days of Tacey's public changelog, each with its title and its first sentence, tells you how many more changes are not shown, and ends with one Read the changelog button that opens the full changelog. If your Tacey language is not English, the entries are in English for now and the email says so. It never mentions your customers or your orders. Switching it off does not affect setup help or the emails about refunds, held orders and payments.
Summary email
If you set some emails to In my summary email, Tacey collects them into one email instead of one email each. A change that moves money is always emailed right away.
How often offers Every day or Every Monday. A daily summary is sent in the morning, between 9:00 and 11:00 in your store's time zone; the weekly one is sent on Monday morning in the same hours. The page prints your store's time zone. A summary is never sent when there is nothing to report.
Weekly summary
Email me a summary every week (on by default) sends the numbers on Monday morning in your store's time: how many orders customers changed in the week, and how. It is sent only in a week when customers changed something, and it never shows an order or a customer. Every weekly summary has a link that turns it off too.
Not on this page
Setup and tips emails (the welcome, the follow-ups and the first-two-weeks tips). They have their own unsubscribe link in each email. See Who do Tacey's emails come from, and what do they contain?.
Emails to your customers. Those come from your store's name. Their settings are on each tool and on Global settings.
Frequently asked
I switched an email off and it still arrived. It is one of the always-on money emails, or it is Items changed or Discount applied for a change that moved money. Those are sent whatever the switch says.
I get no emails at all. Check Store notification email on Global settings, check no warning shows at the top of the Notifications page, and check none of the tools behind the emails are off.
Can I send these to my whole team? Add up to 5 addresses under Also send to. To reach more people, use one shared mailbox.
Why did my bell entry disappear? Switching an email off removes its bell entry too.
Not yet driven
Every label, help sentence, option list and control above was read from the live Notifications page on the dev store (2026-10-25). No kind was triggered to see the email arrive, so the email wording, the 80% and 95% limit warnings and the always-on list are described from the page and the code, not from a received email. UNPROVEN.
The money and hold rows (the first nine under The money and hold emails) appear on the page only while Tacey's money-email switch is on. It is on in both dev and production at the time of writing (read from `wrangler.jsonc`, 2026-10-25).
