When Tacey's address check finds a real, confirmed correction on an order, such as a wrong postal code, you can apply it yourself in one click, without opening the order in Shopify. Tacey updates the shipping address in Shopify, records who made the change, and checks the new address again.
Where to find it
In Tacey, open Orders.
Open an order whose address check says Check address (the pill reads Needs attention at the top of the order).
Scroll to Shipping address. Current address sits beside Suggested address. When Tacey can apply the correction, a Use suggested address button sits under the two cards. The Suggested address card is exactly the address that will be saved, so what you read is what you get.
What happens when you click it
Click Use suggested address. A confirmation opens, Update this order's address?, repeating the address and naming what changes ("Changing: postal code.").
It tells you that Tacey will save exactly that address on the order in Shopify, that Shopify may recalculate tax on the order, and that Tacey records the change and does not charge or refund anything.
Click Yes, update the address (or Cancel to leave the order alone).
Tacey updates the order's shipping address in Shopify, reads it back to confirm it saved, and checks the new address again. The order now reads Verified, Current address shows the corrected address, and Address before the change keeps the old one. What changed on this order lists the change, who asked, and that Shopify confirmed it.
Only the parts named in the confirmation change. Your customer's name, phone, company and address line 2 are never touched, and the country is never changed.
When there is no button
Tacey only offers the button when the correction is certain. You will not see it when:
What you see | Why |
No suggestions for now. This address is verified. | There is nothing to correct. |
The suggested address is shown, with This order has shipped, so its address can't be changed here. | Everything on the order has shipped. |
The address changed since this check, so nothing was changed. Check it again first. | Someone changed the address in Shopify after Tacey checked it. Run the check again first. |
This order can't be edited, so its address can't be changed here. | Shopify does not allow this order to be edited (for example it is cancelled). |
Tacey could not confirm the building number, so it can't tell which city or postal code is right and offers no button. Check the number with the customer. | The check could not find the street number, so any city or postal code it suggests would be a guess. |
No Suggested address card at all | The order needs a unit or apartment number from the customer, the check found no correction, or the suggestion would change the country. Use Ask the customer to fix it where it is offered, or fix it in Shopify. |
Tacey never offers a correction that only changes the spelling of the street type ("Rd" or "Road") on a Verified order.
If you click and it is refused
The order is left exactly as it was, and the message says why:
The address changed since this check, so nothing was changed. Check it again first.
This order has shipped, so its address can't be changed here.
Someone is updating this order right now. Try again in a moment.
The corrected address would change the shipping price, so nothing was changed. Update the order in Shopify.
Tacey could not confirm the change in Shopify. Check the order's address there before trying again.
Money
The button never charges or refunds anything. If Shopify recalculates tax because the address changed, the result line tells you what the customer is now owed or now owes, and that nothing was refunded or charged, so you settle it in Shopify.
What this does NOT do
It does not email your customer. To ask the customer to confirm or fix the address themselves, use Ask the customer to fix it on the same order.
It does not change the country, and it does not change an order whose address was already corrected.
It does not touch the customer's own edit allowance.
It does not apply a suggestion the check could not confirm.
What is not yet confirmed
The button was run on real orders in a test store, at desktop width and at phone width: a Seattle order (postal code 98101 became 98109) and Dallas and Austin orders (75201 became 75202, 78703 became 78701). Each time the order showed the corrected address afterwards, and Shopify, read back separately, held the same address. On a cancelled order the page showed This order can't be edited, so its address can't be changed here. and no button. These were not run for this article: a correction that moves the order to a different shipping zone, a correction after which Shopify recalculated tax, and a click made more than 60 minutes after you opened Tacey. The other refusal messages above are the product's own wording, read from the product rather than each triggered.
