Switching Tacey's language

Tacey opens in your store's own language automatically, and you can change it any time from a button on every page.

Written by Joseph Odera

Tacey opens in your store's own language the first time you install it, and you can change it yourself any time. You do not need to configure anything for the first part — it just matches whatever language your Shopify admin already speaks.

What this does

When you install Tacey, it reads the language your store is set up in and opens in that language automatically. If you'd rather use a different one, there's a language button on every page that opens a full list to choose from — the change applies instantly, everywhere in the app.

This matters most if your team is spread across different countries, or if the language your store is set up in isn't the one you'd rather run your day-to-day admin work in. Tacey doesn't make you choose during setup — it makes a reasonable guess from your store, and gets out of the way until you decide to change it.

How to change the language

  1. Open Tacey in your Shopify admin. In the top-right corner of the page title, you'll see a small flag and the current language's name — for example, a US flag and English.

  2. Click it. A window titled Change language opens, with a search box labeled Search languages and a list of languages below it, each shown by its own name (Deutsch, Francais, and so on) with the English name underneath, and a small flag next to each one.

  3. Either type into the search box to jump to a language, or scroll the list and click the one you want.

  4. The window closes on its own the moment you click a language — there is nothing else to confirm.

That's it — there's no save button. The moment you click a language, the whole page switches: the title, the left-hand navigation, table headers, status badges, buttons, and the footer at the bottom of the page.

What happens next

Your choice sticks. The next time you or anyone on your team opens Tacey in this store's admin, it opens in the language you picked — you won't need to pick it again. If you never touch the language button at all, Tacey keeps following your store's own admin language, and will follow it if that ever changes.

Tacey currently offers: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Simplified Chinese.

What this does NOT do

  • It's a store setting, not a personal one. Everyone who opens Tacey in your admin sees the same language — it isn't tied to which staff account is logged in.

  • It only changes Tacey's own pages, not the rest of your Shopify admin, and not your online store or checkout.

  • It doesn't yet appear on every screen. The language button shows up on every page you reach from Tacey's navigation — Orders, Ledger, Analytics, Billing, Integrations, Settings — but not yet on the very first installation screen or the sign-in screen, before you've reached the app itself.

  • It doesn't require a plan or any setup. This is available on every Tacey plan, from the moment you install the app.

Frequently asked

I installed Tacey and it's in the wrong language. Why?

Tacey matches your Shopify admin's language on install. If that doesn't look right, or your store's admin language has changed since you installed Tacey, just pick the language you want using the button described above — it takes effect immediately and Tacey will remember it.

Does changing Tacey's language change what my customers see?

No. This setting only affects the pages you and your team see inside Tacey's app in your Shopify admin. It has no effect on your storefront, checkout, or any emails your customers receive.

Will this change again if I reinstall the app or my staff logs in from another computer?

No — once you've picked a language, it's saved against your store, not your browser or device. Reinstalling can reset it back to matching your store's admin language, in which case you can pick it again the same way.

I don't see my language in the list. What happens?

Tacey currently supports 21 languages, listed above. If your store's admin language isn't one of them, Tacey opens in English by default, and you can still pick any of the 21 from the language button if you'd prefer one of those over English.
